Curtain Measurement Guide

3 Easy Steps to Measuring and Selecting your Curtains and Sheers

Feel overwhelmed with thousands of choices from the fabric store? Leuvia can help make designing custom-made or choosing ready made curtains and sheers a breeze.

Follow our easy tips below to ensure your new curtains and sheers are made perfectly to fit your space.

  1. Determine the width of your new curtains/sheers

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is how to measure for new curtains. Our simple rule: Measure the hardware (curtain rod or track), not the window.

Measure the distance between the two ends of the track or rod, not including the finials.

Curtains with a Pinch Pleat heading: The panel width should be at least equal to, or more than your actual rod or track width measurement (excluding finials).  As the fullness of the pinch pleat is set already, the fabric will be 2- 2.2  times the size of the heading using the aforementioned panel width guide.

Curtains with a Tap Top or Rod Pocket heading: The Panel width should be at least 1.5 (ideally 2 times) the width measurement of your rod or track, excluding finials, dependent on your choice of fullness.

Curtain Types | Pinch Pleat, Tap Top, Rod Pocket

How many panels do I need?

Choosing the number of panels, depending on the look you want to achieve.

  • One Long Panel: Tie to one side
  • Two Panels: Two panels to meet in the middle when close, and set to either side when open.
  • Multiple Panels: Usually used for larger spaces.

What if I don’t have Curtain Rods, Rails or Tracks in place yet?

Find out how to measure your curtain hardware, as well as where we recommend sourcing your curtain rods from by following THIS LINK.

  1. Determine the length of your new curtains/sheers

Length is the distance between the curtain rod and the floor. If you’d like to cover the hardware, measure from the top of the rod/track to floor. Otherwise, measure from the bottom of the rod/track to floor.

Curtain Lengths Guide

What if I don’t have Curtain Rods, Rails or Tracks in place yet?

First, consider how high you want your curtain rod/track. Please note the standard height is approx. 10 – 15 cm above the top of the window frame.

Note: To add the impression of height to a room, mount the rod/ track closer to the ceiling.
